Historique : vente coll. R.V.N. et G.C. 2e partie, Paris, Drouot, étude de Maigret, 18 novembre 2009, n° 85 repr. en couleur, comme "portrait d'Adalberth Suchy".

Provenant de la prestigieuse collection militaire R.V.N. ce portrait vu à mi-corps de trois-quarts à gauche sur fond de verdure et de ciel, en habit blanc, ceinture bleue et or, montre un officier français émigré au service autrichien coiffé de son casque au chiffre de François II. Il est décoré de l’ordre de Saint Louis,  et de la Tapferkeitsmedaille, décoration autrichienne en argent au profil de l’empereur, à ruban blanc liséré rouge . Le modèle n'est pas  encore identifié; il a été confondu dans le catalogue de la vente de novembre 2009 avec le nom de l'artiste, Adalbert Suchy.

Comme nous le précise très aimablement M. Dimitri Gorchkov que nous remercions beaucoup pour ses recherches, la médaille de Saint-Louis permet d'affirmer qu'il s'agit d'un officier français émigré au service de l'Autriche. Il porte l'uniforme autrichien de l'Infanterie-Regiment Erzherzog N°3 (fusilier de l'Infanterie de ligne en habit), réglé par l'ordonnance de 1798. Comme le casque est encore chiffré "FII" sur la plaque de laiton, la miniature a donc été réalisée début 1806, avant la bataille d'Austerlitz, qui voit l'empereur François II du Saint Empire romain germanique réduit à n'être plus qu'empereur d'Autriche sous le nom de François Ier. L’uniforme est bien en concordance avec la date de 1806 portée au revers de l'oeuvre.

Formerly in the prestigious military R.V.N. collection, this portrait shows an Austrian officer with a helmet bearing the initials of Emperor Francis II. He is decorated with the order of St Louis and  the Tapferkeitsmedaille, a silver Austrian medal with the profil of the emperor, with a red and white border ruban. The sitter is not yet identified; he was confused in the November 2009 catalogue of sale with the name of the artist, Adalbert Suchy, one of the top Austrian artist for miniature.

We are very thankfull to M. Dimitri Gorchkov who indicates us that because of the Saint-Louis order this is a French emigré serving Austria. The initials "FII" show that the miniature was executed at the beginning of year 1806, before the Austerlitz battle, as after it, Emperor Franz II of the Holly German Empire was reduced to be only Emperor of Austria under the name of Franz the First. The datation early 1806 is consistant with the date "1806" at the back of the miniature. The uniform belongs to the Infanterie-Regiment Erzherzog N°3 , as ruled by the 1798 texts.
